  The Relationship between Mood,Need for Cognition and Pathological Internet Use Behaviors

  Abstract The present research investigates internet addiction and its relationship with internet use,mood and need for cognition in college students. The results show:male students have significantly higher scores than female ones in compulsive internet use,interpersonal relationship and health,time management and internet addiction;five sub-dimensions of internet addiction have significant positive correlation with negative mood and discontent expression,while they have significant negative correlation with need for cognition;other sub-dimensions have significant positive correlation with functions of recreation and communication except the dimension of interpersonal relationship and health;discontent expression,craving for knowledge,negative mood and need for cognition contribute significantly to internet addiction for all students and male ones,and discontent expression,recreation,negative mood,positive mood and need for cognition contribute significantly to internet addiction for female students.
